Through initiatives like the Weil Scholars Program and the Weil Embark fellowship with New Memphis, the foundation supports academic excellence, leadership development, and community engagement to shape the city’s future changemakers.
Growing and retaining top talent, in Memphis – for Memphis.

What We Do
Develop Leaders, Deploy Talent
The Burton Weil Family Foundation was established in 2022 with a goal of investing in young professionals in Memphis to attract and retain top talent.
The Foundation’s first project, the Weil Scholars Program, launched in October of 2023, is a unique academic effort established to attract some of the nation’s top-performing students to the University of Memphis for undergraduate, graduate and law degrees. Current Weil Scholars come from as far as India and as nearby as Bartlett, and are studying a range of subjects from biochemistry to law to music.
The newest initiative, a partnership with New Memphis, will support a cohort of young professionals through the Weil Embark program. The fellowship provides skill-building, networking and community engagement to empower the next generation of leaders.
Founder Burton Weil is betting that beneficiaries of his philanthropy will go out and change Memphis, if not the world, for the better.
