Building Tomorrow’s Memphis: Inside the Embark Program for Emerging City Leaders

New Memphis recently launched its Embark initiative, a three-month leadership and development program tailored for early-career professionals, typically with two to eight years of experience, who are passionate about shaping Memphis’s future. Through mentorship, team-building, and hands-on projects, Embark empowers participants to become more effective community advocates.

What makes Embark unique is its blend of personalized mentorship, collaborative projects, and leadership training. Each participant is paired with a seasoned leader who offers guidance through real-world challenges. In small teams, participants tackle pressing local issues, developing and implementing solutions that have a measurable impact.

The program also focuses on developing leadership skills through an emphasis on self-awareness, team dynamics, and systems thinking. This helps prepare participants to make meaningful contributions not just in their careers, but in the broader Memphis community.

Embark is more than a training program—it’s a network. Graduates leave with deeper connections, increased confidence, and a clear path to civic engagement. One participant shared that the program helped them grow into a better teammate and primed them to be a more effective community advocate.

Memphis benefits when its emerging leaders are invested in, and Embark helps ensure that tomorrow’s change-makers are ready to lead. To learn more about the program or apply for a future cohort, visit newmemphis.org.
